THE PROCESS

DESIGN

Every MAISON VAEL piece begins on paper, not on a trend board. We start with how a bag will actually be used — what it needs to carry, how it should sit on the shoulder, where a hand naturally reaches for a clasp — and design outward from there. Our silhouettes are deliberately restrained, drawn to stay relevant long after a single season has passed. We refine each shape through repeated prototypes, adjusting proportion, strap length, and hardware placement until the piece feels balanced in the hand and quietly confident on the body.

About Our Leather

SELECTION

A bag is only as good as the hide it is cut from, so material comes before everything else. We work with full-grain and vegetable-tanned leathers chosen for character as much as durability — hides that carry their natural markings and deepen in colour with age rather than wearing thin. Each skin is inspected by hand before cutting, and pieces that fall short on grain, temper, or finish are set aside. We would rather make fewer bags from better leather than compromise on the material our customers live with for years.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

The finishing is where a MAISON VAEL bag earns its keep. Our pieces are assembled by skilled makers who take the time each stage demands — edges are painted and burnished by hand, seams are stitched to hold under real weight, and hardware is set so it opens smoothly for years, not weeks. We line every bag properly, reinforce the points that take daily stress, and check each finished piece before it leaves the workshop. The result is an object built to be carried, repaired if ever needed, and kept — the opposite of disposable.
